ZONA PERANG (zonaperang.com) On this day in 1942, Soviet troops completely encircle Stalingrad trapping small German 6th Army inside the city. Within 72 days, the besieged Axis forces will surrender unconditionally.
The German 6th Army was not trapped inside the city. Only part of the army was inside the city. The majority of it was outside the city, in the suburbs, at the two airfields & holding the flanks up to the Romanian 3rd Army in the north to the Rumanian 4th Army in the south.
